Days of the Week

Mallory started out at her new preschool the second week in June. She loves it! She is in class with 3 and 4 year olds which is different than last year, at her old school, where she was with 2 and 3 year olds. This school has scheduled circle time where they talk about, among other things, the days of the week, months of the year and the weather. When we went on the first day to observe, Mallory sat in the circle and the kids all sang a catchy little song to remember the days of the week. They then went on to talk about what month and year it was. When one of the kids proudly proclaimed that the year was "two thousand and nine!" Mallory raised her hand and said "I don't know that number." The teachers reassured her that she would learn lots of new stuff at preschool this year.

This is all very true. She will learn a whole bunch of new information. However, I was reminded today that Brent and I might need to do some homework with her so she can move up to speed with the other kids. As we were driving home from preschool, Mallory decided to belt out the song for the days of the week. It is sung to the tune of "Adams Family" and her version went something like this:

There's Monday and there's Thursday
There's Wednesday and there's Sunday
There's Saturday and Friday
and then there's Tuueesssday
Days of the Week (clap clap)
Days of the Week (clap clap)
Days of the Week (clap clap)

Obviously the days of the week are supposed to go in order of, well, the days of the week. I laughed as she sang it over and over again and then said "Let's try that together this time...." And together we sang the days of the week, in the correct order.
Sorry to tell the grandparents, I guess she isn't a genius after all :)

So cute!!!! I'm pretty sure those songs are Dr. Jean. She makes a bunch of cd's and I had a bunch when I taught kindergarten. She has some great songs!!! Now I have that stuck in my head! :)

I was just singing that song today. I kid you not. I should mention that I've been on vacation since the third, therefore not caring for little children and having ZERO excuse to be singing Adams Family Days of the Week.
