Preschool is over?

Mallory graduated one week ago today.  Her preschool has the option to be year round so I fully assumed she was going to keep going to preschool until we told her she was done in July to take a break before Kindergarten started in the fall.

One week ago the cap was worn, she received her diploma and she took pictures with all of her close friends.  The next day she asked if Sophie would be at school and I told her she was not because she was taking the summer off.  Mallory asked about a few more friends; 2 were taking the summer off and 1 was still going to be at school through the summer.  She then told me words I never expected to hear “I don’t want to go to school today.”  We talked her into going and I picked her up and she appeared to have fun.  All weekend long she talked about wanting to take a break from school.  She wanted to “wait until Kindergarten and the big bus”.   Monday came and she said the same thing about not wanting to go…  I ushered her into the van, into school, and picked her up a few hours later. Her response continued that she just wanted to take a break.

So I listened.  I told her she didn’t have to go if she didn’t want to.  It was indeed summer vacation.  And she chose to be done—”well except for maybe the field trips”.  She is fully aware that afternoons are spent quietly at home because Mikayla still needs a nap.  Mornings this week have been spent lounging in our pj’s and heading to the park earlier than ever before.  We’ve mall walked when it was unbearably hot, we’ve twirled on the deck and we have plans for a picnic/park play date with our cousins.

This picture…you guys! She looks so old!   I cannot get over it.
Her bang-less style has added at least a year and a half of age to her look.

Preschool is over and she is on her way to Kindergarten. But first we are going to thoroughly enjoy a real summer vacation!
