Campfire! Without the camping…

With the onset of the cooler weather our neighbors fired up their fire pit and have had a campfire for the last three days.  Mallory has been in her glory. She has been asking since the week we moved in when Debbie and Rich were going to have a campfire. When temps were soaring above 90 degrees the answer was simple; not today.  Debbie promised when the weather cooled down they would have S’mores.  We walked to their backyard and walked into a campground (without the tents and portapotties).  The girls sat on rocks and home made benches and we roasted marshmallows and hot dogs.  Fingers dirty, hair smelling like campfire, the girls loved every minute.

Like opening an Oreo cookie, Mikayla knew exactly what to do with her S’more.  She had one, and the rest of the weekend preferred grapes to marshmallows and graham crackers.

Mallory, on the other hand, would have survived on S’mores alone if we would have let her.

Feet crossed, S’more in one hand and covering her face from the smoke with her other, what a memory.

It was a great wrap up to a busy summer.  We are two days before the big bus comes barreling down the hill to pick up Mallory.  She is really excited. These next few days will be spent making sure we have all we need before she heads off to school.
And I ask again, where has the time gone?
