My problem with stashing...

I have this problem that I didn't realize I had until my dad and sister pointed it out to me. Now that the problem has been called to my attention, I realize I have it, but I don't know how to stop it (nor do I want to or think I need to). What is my problem? I stash, hide (and hoard too I guess) the candy that I buy. I haven't always done this. In fact, I didn't start this slight obsession until about 7 years ago. You do the math--7 years ago Brent and I moved in together. Can I fully blame him for this problem? No. However, I have valid reason for why I stash. I eat just a few bites/pieces of candy a day. After lunch and after dinner I may have one or two mini candy bars or a handful of M&M's. When Brent sees candy or chocolate in the house he will eat it constantly over the course of a few days until it is gone. Sometimes when I am watching him eating something I wonder to myself if he is even tasting what he is putting into his mouth...He doesn't savor the flavor, he doesn't enjoy the treat over a few weeks, he just over indulges.

Now, when he was in Oklahoma we all know that we celebrated Easter with one of my favorite candies. I was able to hold onto those for far longer because Brent wasn't even in the house. I also had purchased a few other treats (not as special as the Cadbury eggs but still delicious). I bought two bags of Starburst Jelly Beans --the limited addition red colored beans. I put one bag into a Ziploc and put it in the van. I would munch on a few here and there as we were out and about, but the beans were lasting a long time and I was stretching my dime for all it was worth. A few days after Brent got home we were driving in the van together and he found the stash. I quickly told him not to slam them all into his mouth; to just take a few. He obliged. Then he had to take the van to get it repaired and to the townhouse to unload a few things. He had the vehicle in his possession for 48 hours. When I got it back...this is what I found.

Honestly. If you are going to eat the entire bag--eat the entire bag! Don't leave FOUR little jelly beans. And now you know why I stash.

My dad told me that my grandma used to do this too to keep her "loot" away from my grandpa. Not quite sure if it is hereditary, but I am certainly going to continue to hide my stash. Now to find the perfect spot in the new place...

At least he left you 4 so that you could savor the taste!

This is hilarious--we have the same problem at our house! If I want any of the leftover Halloween candy, I have to hide it.

I am glad to know I have fellow stashers out there - Just ask Kristen about this problem we call "multiples" - when I was a kid I had 2 sisters and 1 brother in the house - we were constantly running out of everything as my mom never kept anything in the cupboards it drove me nuts- shampoo, TP, toothpaste etc etc - now I have "multiples" in the cupboard - and it is just me.

hehe yeah Angie goes a LITTLE overboard on the backup products. Good to know if you ever run out of anything she will have it. :)
