Mallory wants 'smore

Well I am back in the land of the living--we have all had a case of the summer sniffles--yuck! We were all better once the weekend started and we enjoyed a nice semi-relaxing weekend.

Friday night we had a bonfire in the backyard. This was Mallory's first bonfire, which meant it was also our first bonfire as parents. Several differences in being fireside as a parent, not just a participant. These include, but are not limited to; we did not sit fireside once dark falls until the wee hours of the morning, we did not consume massive amounts of alcohol, we did not show off our "fire jumping skills", there we're not any deep in thought conversations held about life and love, there was no spitting in the fire...

Instead we started the fire at 6:45 and one of our fellow "fire enjoyers" was in bed by 8:30, we talked about the following, no running, no touching, no jumping around the fire. We also answered lots of "why" questions as Grandpa built the fire. "Just because that's how you build a fire" just wasn't good enough...

All questions stopped once we brought out the goods for making smores. Mallory was all about the marshmallows even before she tried one. She helped roast, helped build, wanted to squish the sandwich all by herself, took a few "mmmmmmm MMM" bites and then was done. Until someone else wanted a smore--and then the process started all over again.
