A black eye, fresh horse poop, a fat lip, and a bee sting...What a weekend!

That about sums it up for us. Thankfully they all didn't happen to one member of the family. Unfortunately, Mallory took the brunt of a few of them. I'll explain.

We went down to Brent's parents Saturday afternoon to spend the rest of the weekend hanging out and celebrating Jaime and Terry's Birthdays. As soon as we arrived on Saturday we headed down to Sponsels Apple Orchard to pick up our annual fall apple supply. The great thing about Sponels is all of the other fall activities that they have going on at the orchard. Mallory wanted to check out the horses first. Off we go to take a look at all the different sizes and colors of horses. Before I could even realize what I had done, not 4 minutes out of the van, I look down to see my foot on top of a warm, slimy, very fresh pile of horse poop. And I was wearing my new shoes. Ugh. Off I went to wipe them off--I found some clean grass and a big leaf--job completed. I went back to find Mallory, Brent and his parents, only to see Brent and his mom inspecting Brents arm. Yup--Brent got stung by a bee. Wow--great 5 minutes at the apple orchard so far. Geesh. Thankfully, the rest of the trip went fine. We got our apples and made it back to the van without any incidents.

On Saturday night we played cards and ate snacks--it was tons of fun and we need to do that more often! Mallory was a little scared going to bed as she is getting to age where "fears" are setting in. This is all new to Brent and I and breaks our hearts to hear her say she is scared of the dark and all the other fears she is learning about.

She didn't sleep the greatest but we woke up Sunday ready to enjoy the day. The three of us headed out to run some errands and go to an old favorite park. We stopped for "spare change coffee/cocoa" before we got to park and then played and played at the park. We got back to Brent's parents house in time for some lunch and a too short nap for Mallory--a nap nonetheless.
Mallory woke up from her nap and saw that Jaime, Tom and Summer were already there for the party--she was ready for fun! Craig and Molly showed up with the kids and the day got even better for Mallory! Mallory and Caleb were off playing in no time. They decided on a game of Foosball for starters. Great idea if your 3 feet TALLER than a 2 and 3 year old. With one great shot at hitting an unseen ball Mallory took a jab from one of the Foosball poles to her mouth. She is usually a pretty tough kid but this one made her shed some tears, a small amount of blood and ended in a fat lip. She shook it off and was back to normal in no time.

We were all hungry and getting ready to eat dinner when we decided we needed a leaf put in the dinner table so we could all sit together. Mallory decided she needed a new glass of milk at the exact same time the table was being stretched out to add the leaf. Corner of table, meet Mallory's eye. Yeah--not so nice to meet you... That was quite the bang and put Mallory over the edge. Sleep deprived and two major face owies--put a fork in Mallory, she's done. She has a nice black eye this morning from the rendezvous with the table.

She got home and had forgotten all about the bumps and bruises. She remembered playing with her family and how much fun she had. I guess it has to be the toddler version of "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
