Here's to hoping I have green thumbs...

I was surprised last week with an early mother's day present--a garden plot! Brent and I have been talking about building a garden for a few years, but the yard never seemed right. And, well, now the yard isn't even our own, but Gary thought the yard needed a garden and he and Brent surprised me with a great plot of land when I got home from my girls weekend last Sunday.
I am very excited. I am very nervous. I hope my garden yields some form of produce. We spent the last week, cultivating, adding black dirt and manure, and designing the layout of the plot. We envisioned all the veggies we wanted to plant. Peas, beans, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, pumpkins, watermelons!!! WAIT. Is all of that really going to fit? Regroup. I researched, I talked with neighbors who garden, and reformulated my ideas. We decided to spend this morning at Gertens buying our seed and veggie plants. Let this be a lesson to all of you--do not attempt Gertens on a beautiful weekend morning, much less Mother's Day. The place was beyond busy (well organized and employed), but much like the state fair or the zoo.

We now have our garden plotted, and ready to be planted, which we plan to do tomorrow. With high hopes and our fingers crossed, we hope to grow the following: cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, peas, pumpkins and lettuce.
Mallory is all about having her own new new new pretty smelly flowers, so we got her some flowers to plant along with a new pair of gardening gloves.
I hope you all had a great Mother's Day! Enjoy the overload of pics!

See the garden plot? Can you see the possibilities??
