Mallory has a new tricycle. It's a purple and pink Radio Flyer three wheeler with a little trunk in the back. She loves it. At first she sat on it, wanted to be pushed around and stuck things in the trunk. She would "park" her trike and then try her hardest to peddle it, but she just didn't know how to make it move. I thought she was never going to get. In the beginning, I really thought she would get on it and just know how to peddle.
Well, kids aren't born with that instinct and we needed to teach her how to do it. Brent and I set about this new learning experience with gusto. We were going to teach our daughter to ride a bike! "Push your legs down Mallory!" "Push your feet! Come on PEDDLE!!" All she would do was grunt as she tried to push her legs and feet down...and then she would giggle, get off the trike and run off...
This was just not working...
Finally, a wiser voice stepped in and said just push her around, let her get the feel of the motion of peddling. Fine. I'll try that.
Within 2 days she was on the driveway peddling away... Now she gets on, puts her feet on the peddles and takes off. She is getting so big!
Here she is "pre-peddle knowledge" looking good with her sun glasses on.
Can you see who is along for the ride in the trunk?
And now--The Trike Rider!!!
