Watch where you sniff....

Since moving back to Prior Lake we are once again close to one of Lucy's favorite places--the dog park. Most of you probably know what a dog park is, but for those that don't I'll give you a quick description. The park that we take Lucy to is a 28 acre fenced in area with several paths mowed through the long grass to walk through. Brent tries to get Lucy there a couple of times a week and she loves it. It took her a few trips to realize that dogs are off leash and free to come up to her and get into her personal space. She is now cool with the uncomfortable sniffs and even gives a few of her own to the other passing hounds.

This particular park has a separate fenced in area with a pond in it. Lucy isn't a water dog and would never chase a stick into the middle of the pond to swim, but she does like to go ankle deep and splash around. We usually don't let her go into the pond area, because that leads to messy muddy mutt who needs a bath when we get home. Mallory has asked each time we go if Lucy can go swimming and knowing Lucy needed a bath before the baby comes home, Brent decided to let her have her fun and splash around in the grimy pond.

Mallory, Brent and of course Lucy had a blast running around the pond and racing. Lucy would take a few short cuts through the shallow parts of the pond, getting just dirty enough to be nasty and shaggy; looking a bit homeless. As they were playing Lucy saw some dogs walking by the outside of the fence. Lucy ran up to the fence and the dogs exchanged meaningful sniffs of each other through the big slats in the wire fence. The other dog then turns around, while Lucy is still sniffing (she is a beagle her sniffs tend to last a bit longer) and lifts his leg right on Lucy's face. Lucy got peed on. It was hilarious. Apparently the big dog thought that Lucy was mark able territory and wanted to make sure all the other dogs knew that he had met Lucy along the way...

Her face was paid special attention to during her bath after her fun at the dog park...
