We will call him Franklin

We were sitting beside Mallory's sandbox as she played yesterday afternoon when Brent spotted something in the neighbor's yard. There was a turtle crawling up to get into the neighbors playground. Seeing that the turtle was far away from its pond (which we are assuming is its home), Brent decided to capture the turtle and take it back to his home (we are also assuming it was a boy turtle). He scooped it up, it peed (this turtle didn't have very good manners, peeing on the person who was saving his life--this is why I am assuming it is a boy), and then he put it in a basket and all 3 of us walked over to the pond and let the turtle go. Once released he walked faster than I thought turtles did and went into the tall grass leading up to the pond.

I am continuously amazed by the amount of "nature" that we are surrounded by living here. I am sure all these things were around 10 years ago when I lived here, but my life was definitely consumed with other things than experiencing nature.

He was pretty big--his shell was the size of a dinner plate and he was not very excited to be stuck in the basket.

As of Thursday night, this is the excitement that has been our week. A lost turtle. Tomorrow is the 4th of July and we are going to a BBQ at our neighbors! We leave on Saturday afternoon for the cabin...until the next post!

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
